The mission of the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements is to lead the provision of human settlements and coordinate the effective functioning of local government to promote sustainable development in communities.

The Department's strategic goals are to build cohesive and sustainable communities by ensuring that innovative services and infrastructure are provided to create sustainable human settlements; enhance participatory governance and build an efficient and effective local government; build an inclusive economic environment that is conducive to the creation of decent work; and strengthen and align the Department’s organisational capability and performance to deliver on its mandate.
