Overview
The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements is committed to building integrated, sustainable communities that restore dignity and improve quality of life. The Department’s approach is informed by 30 years of progress, shifting from fragmented development to well-planned mega projects that meet the housing, social, and economic needs of residents.
The Departments focus includes: leading the delivery of human settlements across Gauteng, promoting spatial justice and access to opportunities in both urban and rural areas, enabling economic development and social cohesion through inclusive planning, strengthening partnerships across all levels of government and stakeholders, and accelerating land release and promoting smart urban development.
Key programmes include research-based policy development, effective beneficiary and title deed administration, and responsible asset management to ensure housing delivers long-term value for communities. This aligns with national and provincial priorities to drive spatial integration, land release, and the development of mega human settlements.
